Laura Panopoulos is a poet whose work is a testament to her unwavering passion for capturing the essence of everyday life, the nuances of human relationships, and the exploration of sensuality. She began playing with words as soon as she could write, with her first memorable story being about a “giant” that turned out to be a sunflower!
She strengthened her poetic voice while studying at The University of Western Ontario, where she realised the profound power of transforming feelings and experiences into words.
In her poetry, Laura delves into the intricate tapestry of relationships, delving into the raw complexities of love, desire, and intimacy. Her verses echo themes of feminism and nostalgia, often evoking a dreamlike quality that pulls readers into the realms of her imagination.
Since 2018, Laura has been the guiding force behind Silver Words Poetry, where she organises and hosts a spoken word poetry event in nipaluna/Hobart. She has performed on stages across lutruwita/
Tasmania, leaving her poetic mark at events, including Ten Days on the Island, Poor Man's Pot, Write Here Write Now – Summer Series, Huon Valley Storyteller's Cup, Australian Poetry Slam State Finals, Party in the Paddock and Red Room Poetry’s Tasmanian Showcase at MONA.
Armed with an Honours Bachelor of Arts from Western University and a Bachelor of Education from Vancouver Island University, Laura has seamlessly merged her love for literature with her role as a literacy support teacher. In her classroom, she instills the same passion for words and storytelling that fuels her own poetic journey, hoping to inspire the next generation to explore the depths of human emotions through the written word.
